Adlib were delighted to be able to facilitate another Live music Industry production day at Gateacre Comprehensive School at the end of March. Throughout the day, students worked alongside the Adlib team, learning about production equipment, setup procedures, and the necessary skills for the industry.
The event began at 9:00 am with a Health and Safety briefing, followed by students assisting in unloading equipment and setting it up in the school theatre. In the evening, six student bands, a teacher’s band and an ex-pupil band, and Reignmaker (who returned to the school as a headline artiste) performed in a sold-out 200-capacity auditorium. The students helped with all the changeovers between bands and the sound and lighting for each band, concluding with the equipment being packed down and loaded back onto the truck, finishing at about 10:00 pm.
This initiative by Adlib provides students with a glimpse into the events industry and potential career paths. Since its inception, it has attracted over 50 young people from Gateacre into the industry, many of whom are still part of the Adlib team today.
Adlib’s Founder & Director, and ex-Gateacre student, Andy Dockerty commented, “We consider it really important that students at this age group get to see the opportunities for careers in the Live Events sector, with a reality check of what the job entails, skills required and the commitment needed to succeed. The Music Industry including Live Events is the 5th largest sector in the UK economy and there are numerous careers available. Unfortunately, the pathway to many of these jobs is not clear via the routes in further education which is why we are keen to develop this awareness. This event today has inspired seven students to want to do work experience within Adlib. With the right desire, passion, and commitment, hopefully, we will see one or more of these students touring the world within the next five years.”
