S Club

Adlib had the pleasure of providing technical production services for the S Club UK & Ireland Arena Tour titled ‘The Good Times Tour’. From audio systems to video control and lighting, Adlib's expertise and state-of-the-art equipment ensured a seamless and visually captivating experience for the audience during all 15 arena shows that the pop group performed.

The Adlib team was selected by 24/7 Productions, led by Tour Director John Pryer, due to their impressive track record in handling large-scale productions, including the highly successful Westlife Arena Tour 2022. On this tour, the two teams had the chance to work together again and execute the vision of award-winning lighting and show designer Tim Routledge.

Audio

The audio system for the tour was designed to deliver exceptional sound quality and coverage. Adlib deployed an L-Acoustics loudspeaker system specifically tailored to meet the requirements of the FOH Engineer, Snake Newton. The main hangs consisted of K1 and KARA II speakers, with K2 side hangs for additional coverage. ARCS II cabinets were flown left and right for infill, while A10 and KARA II boxes were used on the ground for localised fill. To achieve a powerful low-end impact, 16x KS28 subwoofers were evenly distributed across the front of the stage. Adlib's meticulous cable management and L-Acoustics Soundvision software helped maintain a visually clean stage while delivering outstanding audio results throughout the tour. The FOH audio control was managed using an Avid S6L console, Waves plugins, and select pieces of analogue outboard gear. The monitor position featured a DiGiCo SD10 console with a custom rack package containing Adlib splits, console I/O, and all RF equipment for the show.

Video

To enhance the visual experience, Adlib provided a comprehensive video system. The LED setup included upstage and set entrance panels, utilising the ROE Black Quartz 4.6mm LED product. A Helios Processing Rack ensured smooth video playback. Adlib employed the disguise GX2c Media Server for media playback and control. The video control setup comprised a ROSS 4K 2 M/E PPU Production Core and a ROSS 4K CCU Engineering Core. Various Panasonic broadcast cameras captured the live action, including 7x Panasonic UC4000, 5 at FOH position and 2 in the pit, and 1 PTZ camera, Panasonic AW-UE150. Canon UJ90x9B and CJ14ex4.3B lenses were used to achieve crisp and detailed shots. The Panasonic AW-RP150 Touchscreen Remote Camera Controller provided seamless camera control for the operator.

Delivering S Club's Aesthetic with ROE Black Quartz LED Panels

Throughout the S Club Tour, Video Crew Chief Mark Taylor and his team opted for the ROE Black Quartz 4.6 LED panels for their user-friendly deployment, featuring lightweight construction, specialised dolly packaging, and a versatile frame design that allowed for various configurations.

The production included three flown screens seamlessly merging into a single expansive display. The central wall comprised 100 one-meter BQ4 panels and 20 half-meter panels, while the left and right walls each consisted of 72 BQ4 panels and 18 half-meter panels. Additionally, on-stage LED elements were creatively incorporated as a fascia for the set and risers, including a dynamic doorway on a track for the artists.

Lighting

Tim Routledge's lighting system design incorporated a wide range of fixtures to create dynamic and visually striking lighting effects. The lighting rig that the Adlib team deployed comprised Moving lights, including 91x Robe LEDBeam 150 fixtures, 56x Martin Mac Ultra Performance fixtures, and 36x Martin MAC Aura PXL fixtures. LED lighting fixtures included Chauvet Strike Array 4, GLP impression X4 Bar 20, Acme Pixel Line IP, and Robe FORTE EP. To highlight key elements on stage, 15x Robe FORTE EP moving lights and 5 RoboSpot Camera, Base Station & Controller setups were used as followspots. A 1.4m mirror ball added a touch of glamour to the lighting design. The lighting control system consisted of two grandMA3 full-size consoles and two Lighting Small grandMA3 processing unit M Racks. Rigging was handled using EXE hoists, ensuring the safe and efficient installation of all equipment on Tyler GT Plus Pre-Rig Truss and Total Fabrications OV40. Adlib also provided atmospheric effects with four MDG TheONE Fog/Haze machines.

Building the Stage

One of the most challenging aspects of the tour was the creation of a large diamond shape over the stage. The decision was made to build it in two sections, a downstage v and an upstage horseshoe. To ensure a seamless assembly, gates were custom-made at a precise 105 degrees. The rolling stage allowed the team to construct the trusses in the room before rolling them into place.

Adlib's technical production provision for the S Club UK Arena Tour showcased their expertise in audio, video, and lighting systems. The carefully chosen equipment, combined with meticulous planning and execution, ensured an immersive and visually stunning experience for the audience. From the powerful audio system designed to deliver exceptional sound quality to the comprehensive video system which elevated every moment, and the dynamic lighting setup that brought the stage to life, Adlib's 360-degree production delivery played a crucial role in the success of S Club’s return to the UK & Ireland arenas.
