“Since September Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra’s On Demand online concerts have allowed audiences to watch nine concerts from Liverpool Philharmonic Hall in the safety and comfort of their own home, with an additional five to be streamed in the new year. We’re really proud of this effort and pleased to be able to deliver our music to audiences wherever they live.

- Michael Eakin, Chief Executive, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra

The Requirement

2020 has seen the live events sector finding new ways to deliver performances, many of which have enabled them to reach their audience in new ways.

The Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra is no exception and, with support from Adlib, they’ve performed a series of concerts, with a socially distanced audience, that have been recorded and made accessible online.

Through live streaming, and distribution of recordings online on a subscription or pay-per-view model, some performances have been able to go ahead – albeit in a totally different format to normal.

With social distancing significantly limiting the audience size, and many unable to attend as a result of isolation or shielding, online delivery of events has proved to be a way to keep performances as accessible as possible.

The Solution

Over the past few months, Adlib has filmed three socially distanced concerts with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra.

For each, we supplied a six-camera set up with four Sony HDC-4300 cameras in the boxes around the audience, and two Panasonic PTZs on stage.

The vision directors (Kriss Russman for two of the performances, and Sonia Lovett for the third) cut their own mixes live, and each camera output and the main mix were independently recorded.

These ISO records were mixed by Adlib’s Brad Kavanagh, supervised by the vision director, following each show.

The Result
